This was stated by the leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, writes Censor.NET with reference to the press service of the political force. Together with his wife Marina Poroshenko, MPs from European Solidarity, the fifth president honored the memory of Ukrainians who died of hunger during the “Light a candle” action on the territory of the Holodomor Victims Memorial.
“On this day, I remember that my team and I participated in the adoption of a large number of laws. Laws that played a huge role in the creation of the state of Ukraine. In total, I counted that there were more than 600 of them. And about decentralization, and about visa-free travel, and about European vector of development. But a completely separate line is the law, which was adopted on November 28, 2006. The law on perpetuating the memory of the Holodomor and recognizing the Holodomor as genocide. in the formation of statehood, “Poroshenko told reporters.
“The role of this truth is very difficult to exaggerate, because it is true how Ukraine escaped from the empire, what role the empire played in the destruction of the Ukrainian people. Millions of Ukrainians from heaven begged that the truth about their murder, about the genocide against the entire nation, would finally become available to the world,” – the fifth president notes.
He noted that from 2014 to 2019, through the efforts of Ukrainian diplomats, politicians, and the diaspora, a large number of states recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. “This, too, is revealing the truth to the world,” Poroshenko said, highlighting the resolutions of both chambers of the US Congress.
“We will do everything to defend this truth. And it’s a pity that the Day of Dignity and Freedom was not celebrated at the state level in Ukraine for the first time since 2014. It’s a pity that for the first time on August 24, on Independence Day, instead of a military parade on
St. Sophia Square are showing “flip flops.” It is a pity that here too we do not see the president on this day during the “Light a candle” action, ”Poroshenko said.
“I really hope that this is not a manifestation of the ‘what’s the difference’ approach. I really hope that an understanding will come that the Holodomor is not about the past and not only about the empire. The Holodomor and the commemoration of the memory of millions of Ukrainians are about our European future, which certainly does not lie in the sphere of interests of the Russian occupier, “the fifth president is convinced.
Petro Poroshenko thanked everyone who took part in the “Light a Candle” campaign throughout Ukraine. “I would like to express my gratitude to those who are here today. Who put up a candle in the windows today, preserving the memory, defending the truth. I would like to urge you to believe that despite the economic, political, pandemic, constitutional – all the crises that have now united in Ukraine , with God’s help, everything will be fine in Ukraine. Because the Lord is with us and the truth is with us, “Petro Poroshenko is sure.
